I went with my brother-in-law Jim Milano and met up with his friend Joel, who sponsors a few local riders, including two young men from Lake Stevens, Washington, who made the main event. We had a great time talking about our riding adventures and reminiscing about great riders we had seen over the years.

Supercross always brings back great memories for me. I remember the days when the sport was so popular in Seattle that we had two nights of racing. I saw Jean-Michel Bayle dominate in his one season in the United States; as I recall, there were only about half a dozen riders still on the lead lap when he finished the lap main.

I saw local rider Larry Ward win his fist Supercross in or The announcer made a big deal about local rider Scot Steffy from Edmonds, Washington. Each time his name was called, it drove me a little more crazy, so by the time the last-chance qualifier came up, I was really racking my brain.

Scot really tore it up in that race, as only the winner would be advancing to the main event. As the race wore on, I started hearing a young woman yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs. I looked around and finally spotted her, 20 seats over and a few rows down.

Scot won that race and went on to place in the top 10 in the main event. Supercross took on a whole new meaning for me, as l now had a personal connection to the sport. Ryder made a nice showing and qualified for the main event. I was able to get a few pictures of him flying over the triple jump that was directly below us.
